The pace of the march toward consolidation increased last week when six providers became three. Provider combinations include Morae Legal and the Clutch Group, Advanced Discovery and Altep, and Lighthouse and Discovia. These combinations will clearly increase the scale of the new organizations as well as their strategic offerings. Finally, some of Zapproved’s early investors were bought out by a new majority owner.

Shahzad Bashir, Vice President & CEO of Huron Consulting, which was recently combined with Consilio last week, combined his new company Morae Legal with the Clutch Group.  Huron, under Bashir, was one of the early disrupters of how corporate eDiscovery teams work with finance in a Legal Process Outsourcing (LPO).  The Clutch Group has its own proprietary technology and Bashir, explains that "Combining Morae Legal and Clutch to launch Morae Global marks a continued reinvention of the way legal consulting services are provided to law departments. Our innovative model will offer general counsel and their companies a consolidated way to manage their people, processes and technologies in their law departments.”

Advanced Discovery, one of the largest service providers, extends their geographic and strategic reach combining with e-Discovery early mover, Altep.  According to David Trachtenberg, Advanced Discovery’s Chief Marketing Officer, Altep’s expert forensic and cyber services, and their Governance Risk and Compliance predictive risk offerings fill a gap that their corporate clients were requesting.

Lighthouse Discovery combined with Discovia to become one of the larger e-Discovery service providers.  Brian McManus will lead the new company, with Christian Lawrence focusing on business development and thought leadership.

In addition to the transactions above, Zapproved sold a majority stake to private equity, Vista Group, that has as part of its portfolio fellow Portland company Navex, a compliance focused company that pioneered voice technology for whistleblower hotlines.
