TAR Talk is a 15 minute (or so) podcast coming live from our virtual front porch, where Tom and John (sometimes with guests) yak about issues relating to technology assisted review (that’s what the TAR part means) and just about any other legal technology topic that comes to mind. During these podcasts, Tom and John will hit real issues, share their knowledge, discuss research and try to nail one issue of importance to legal professionals in each session. They will also offer bad analogies, even worse jokes and make fun of themselves, sometimes in response to your questions. The only thing they won’t do (if you are lucky) is offer advice on how to fix your car.

TAR by the Numbers will focus on the various TAR versions from the ancient TAR 1.0 implementations through TAR 2.0 (with continuous active learning, known as CAL) and beyond. Pull up a virtual rocker as we talk about the TAR versions and how the different versions work.

You will also be able to download TAR Talk sessions from iTunes, Google Play or the ACEDS and Catalyst websites.

Tom Gricks
Managing Director, Professional Services

Before he joined Catalyst, Tom was a trial lawyer with the law firm Schnader Harrison Segal & Lewis, where he was a partner and chair of the e-Discovery Practice Group. During his tenure, he acted as lead e-discovery counsel in Global Aerospace v. Landow Aviation, the first case in the U.S. to authorize the use of TAR over the objection of opposing counsel. Tom’s work on that case was highlighted in a 2013 Wall Street Journal article, "How a Computer Did the Work of Many Lawyers." In his spare time, Tom hides out in a cozy cabin in the woods, a few hours from Pittsburgh where neither phones nor computers work well but the huntin’ is good.

John Tredennick

John was a partner and trial lawyer with Holland & Hart before he founded Catalyst in 2000. Older than he looks in this picture, John has written or edited eight books and countless articles on legal technology topics, including (with Tom and others) TAR for Smart People (2nd ed.), a User’s Guide to TAR and several others for the ABA and private publishers. Showing that you can fool some of the people some of the time, John has won a number of awards--from being named an e-discovery trailblazer to legal visionary to top 100 global technology leader. When he is not sitting on his virtual porch, you will find him competing on the national equestrian show jumping circuit or playing drums and singing in a classic rock jam band.
