Alvin Lindsay, CEDS Partner | Hogan Lovells | ACEDS Advisory Board Chair
As a Miami partner of the international law firm Hogan Lovells, he has litigated in US federal and state courts and international courts of arbitration for nearly two decades. A leader in the field of electronic discovery, he has been at the forefront of some of the most significant product liability cases in recent times, including those involving commercial airline disasters, drywall from China, pharmaceutical products, vaccines, tobacco, medical devices, cosmetics, yachts, automobiles, and consumer goods. He co-chairs the firm’s Electronic Information Group and is often quoted in the media in matters regarding technology and litigation, and electronic evidence. He earned his JD magna cum laude, Order of the Coif., University of Miami School of Law, and BA from the University of Southern California.
Lael Andara, CEDS Partner | Ropers Majeski Kohn Bentley
A partner in the Silicon Valley office of Ropers Majeski, he focuses on technology and intellectual property litigation, with a particular emphasis on patent litigation. A registered Patent Attorney with an AV Preeminent peer rating from Martindale-Hubbell, he has developed and initiated strategies in high-stakes intellectual property disputes, including patent, copyright, trademark, false advertising, licensing, ITC investigations and trade secret matters. With a leader in cutting-edge legal technology, he has pioneered advancements in e-discovery to enhance his practice by reducing costs while increasing efficiency and security of his client’s information. John M. Barkett Senior Partner | Shook, Hardy & Bacon LLP
Chairman of the ABA’s National Institute on E-Discovery and a thought leader in the field, he is a partner in the Miami office of the international law firm, Shook, Hardy & Bacon LLP. A specialist in litigation and commercial arbitration in several areas of law, he has been a practicing lawyer for 35 years. He is an adjunct law professor on e-discovery at the University of Miami Law School and is the liaison to the Federal Civil Rules Advisory Committee of the ABA Section of Litigation. He authored the books, E-Discovery: Twenty Questions and Answers (2008) and The Ethics of E-Discovery (2009) (both by First Chair Press, Chicago). He has also published several articles on e-discovery, including Walking the Plank, Looking Over Your Shoulder, Fearing Sharks Are in the Water: E-Discovery in Federal Litigation? (Duke 2010 Conference, May 2010). He earned his JD from Yale Law School and BA from the University of Notre Dame.
Barbara Bennett, CEDS Co-Founder, ALSP | E-Discovery Manager | Stout Risius Ross
Co-founder and past president of the Association of Litigation Support Professionals, she has more than 30 years of experience working in the legal industry and has worked specifically in the E-Discovery area for the last 12 years. Barbara currently works for the world’s seventh largest automobile manufacturer in their IT Legal department where she helps manage the E-Discovery litigation software platform. Barbara works closely with legal counsel advises regarding document review workflow best practices, searching protocols and client productions. Previously, she was the Litigation Support Manger at Dickinson Wright, a 450-attorney international law firm, where she served as a strategic resource for E-Discovery, document collection, and other practice support needs. Barbara holds the CEDS certification from the Association of Certified E-Discovery Specialists and is a Relativity Certified Administrator. She is the current President of the ACEDS Detroit, Inc. chapter and frequently presents on topics covering project management, E-Discovery and litigation support.
James Bickley, CEDS Director, Disputes & Investigations | Navigant
Director in Navigant’s Disputes & Investigations division, he brings more than 14 years of extensive experience advising corporations, law firms and government entities in matters involving e-discovery, forensics, data breach and cyber security, application development, predictive coding, discovery management, in addition to all phases of information lifecycle management. A CEDS, he has experience across the entire spectrum of the e-discovery process, from document collection to the defense of privilege logs, and all steps in between. Director of E-Discovery Support Services at Winston & Strawn, he is responsible for all aspects of the firm’s litigation support technology, e-discovery operations and document review center management. Throughout his career, he has worked in a consultative capacity with law firms and corporate legal departments enabling them to effectively leverage technology in all legal practice areas. With a focus on e-discovery, records management, and litigation readiness, he advises firm lawyers and clients on a wide variety of technical issues relating to discovery in complex litigation. A member of the Sedona Conference Working Group on Electronic Document Retention and Production, he is a frequent writer and speaker on a variety of topics ranging from e-discovery best practices and legal cost control to leadership development, performance management and staff mentoring in legal organizations. A former president of the Association of Litigation Support Professionals, she has an extensive background in consulting on data management challenges and managing vendors, particularly in large scale litigation. With her deep knowledge of technical and software options, she provides clients at Litigation Central with the insight to develop the best solutions for their specific needs. An attorney, she has consulted with both corporate and private law firms in a variety of matters, including assisting clients with software selection and implementation, data mapping, vendor management, departmental evaluations, litigation holds, litigation readiness, formulation of discovery plans, and creation of practice support groups. Previously, she served as director of practice support services for Holme Roberts & Owen, the national law firm that would later merge with Bryan Cave. She has authored numerous white papers on litigation support and e-discovery.
Stephanie L. Giammarco, CEDS Partner | BDO Consulting
A partner at BDO Consulting, she leads the Computer Forensics and E-Discovery practice. For 16 years, she has provided litigation and investigative services to a wide range of Fortune 500 clients and law firms. Her consulting and advisory services have been provided in matters ranging from class actions, internal investigations, and securities and financial statement fraud. Using tools of computer forensics, e-discovery, data mining and electronic extraction, she has led complex financial fraud cases. She testifies on behalf of businesses concerning e-discovery practices and often speaks and presents papers on e-discovery and computer forensics topics.
Martha Huber, CEDS | Strategy Definition Lead | Deutsche Bank
Martha Huber is a Certified eDiscovery Specialist (CEDS), Privacy Professional (CIPP/US and CIPT), and Project Management Professional (PMP) who is passionate about technology and the work that ACEDS is doing in the industry. She was born in New York, raised on Long Island and outside of Boston, Massachusetts, and earned her Bachelor’s in Romance Languages from the University of New Hampshire during the Reagan years (and lived to tell about it). Having never having traveled further than her dad’s hometown of Ohio or north to Canada until her university year-abroad study in Mexico City, Martha drove cross-country to Seattle, Washington upon her graduation to pursue her passions in non-profit arts, technology, online software development, and enterprise product development, focusing on IT program management, data privacy, information security and process improvement. While in Seattle, she worked for a number of highly visible start-ups in the technology, retail, telecomm and financial services spaces – being fortunate enough to include Microsoft, Starbucks, Nordstrom, BlackRock (formerly Quellos) and T-Mobile in her portfolio. Martha is an advocate for the importance of human rights, for the importance of thinking globally and acting locally, and giving back to the community.
2013 brought Ms. Huber to Jacksonville, FL , where she is now Strategy Definition Lead for Deutsche Bank’s eDiscovery Operations organization, focusing on strategic solution integration, program management, change governance, and bridging the gap between regulatory compliance and eDiscovery/Privacy-by-Design solution delivery. She is the mother of two children and lives with her partner and life-time co-adventurer, who reminders her every day that life is a gift worth living. In her spare time, she likes to swim, read historical non-fiction and travelogues, backpack, and noodle on her guitar, mandolin or her newest love, the ukulele.
Jeffrey S. Jacobson, CEDS Director, Division of Law | State of New Jersey
Director of the New Jersey Division of Law, he leads the organization that serves as legal counsel for all New Jersey state departments and other offices, as well as their officers and employees, while also representing the state in all legal matters including contract negotiations and civil lawsuits. A former litigation partner at Debevoise & Plimpton in New York, he focused his practice on the defense of consumer and securities class actions and the electronic discovery challenges presented by complex litigation and investigative matters in these and other types of legal matters. Helen Bergman Moure, CEDS Principal | Lex Aperta
Principal of Lex Aperta in Seattle, which specializes in e-discovery legal advice and consulting, Helen Bergman Moure has been a commercial litigator in federal and state court for 17 years. Since 1999, she has devoted her practice to efficient, cost-effective e-discovery and document review services to clients ranging from entrepreneurs to Fortune 100 corporations. Previously, as a partner at K&L Gates in Seattle, she helped found the firm’s e-Discovery Analysis and Technology (e-DAT) Group and develop the Patterns document review software created by Attenex, now owned by FTI. She is very experienced in structuring and supervising projects involving all aspects of discovery, from custodian identification and retention to collection, processing, review, and post-production litigation support. Sunil Mudunuri Senior Manager of Business Development, Fronteo
Senior manager of marketing and business development at Fronteo North America, in San Francisco, he is a respected thought leader on international and cross-border e-discovery issues and an active member in leading industry organizations. He is a contributor to the The Sedona Conference Working Group VI, which focuses on cross-border discovery and data privacy. Prior to Fronteo, he held several management roles in prominent technology companies where he successfully re-launched product lines and established channel partnerships to drive revenue. A veteran of establishing marketing programs and alliances in both private and public companies, he started his career as a chip design engineer at Quicklogic, where he was granted a patent for the high-speed embedded SERDES product. He has a master’s degree in Electrical Engineering from Wright State University, Ohio.
Tom O’Connor Director | Gulf Coast Legal Technology Center
Director of the Gulf Coast Legal Technology Center, he is a nationally known consultant, speaker and writer in the areas of computerized litigation support systems and e-discovery. Beginning his career as a paralegal specializing in complex litigation, he has worked on asbestos litigation, the Keating case, national breast implant litigation, tobacco litigation on behalf of the Attorney General of Texas and various phases of the Enron litigation. He has designed databases and trained legal staffs in their use. This work has involved both public and private law firms of all sizes across the nation and, over the past several years, has expanded to include electronic document depositories, trial presentation systems and e-discovery. A frequent lecturer on the subject of legal technology, he has served on the faculty of numerous national CLE providers and the advisory board of the national American Lawyer Media LegalTech conferences.
Michael I. Quartararo, CEDS Director of Litigation Support Services | Stroock & Stroock & Lavan LLP
Director of Litigation Support Services at New York-based Stroock & Stroock & Lavan LLP. He is the author of "Project Management in Electronic Discovery," the only book to merge project management principles and best practices in electronic discovery. He is a teacher, a project management professional, and technologist with more than 18 years of experience in the legal services industry. He has worked in legal technology and litigation at large law firms, including at Skadden Arps Slate Meagher & Flom, managing large litigation and complex technology projects. At Stroock, he is responsible for the development and implementation of Firm policy relating to the use of technology across multiple practice areas, and as part of the Firm’s administrative team, he oversees a full-service Litigation Support Department, the development of best practices and project-oriented protocols, and the design and delivery of e-discovery and application-specific training programs. Mike is a member of the Firm’s eDiscovery and Information Governance Group and he regularly consults with attorneys and the Firm’s Fortune 500 clients on the use of technology, electronic discovery and information governance.
A graduate of the State University of New York, with a Bachelor of Science Degree in psychology and music, he also studied law for one year at the University of London. He is a certified Project Management Professional (PMP), a Certified E-Discovery Specialist (CEDS), and he teaches e-discovery and project management at Tempe, Arizona-based Bryan University, where he also sits on the university advisory board. Senior Vice President and General Counsel for Memorial Healthcare System, the fifth largest public hospital system in the United States, she oversees legal and risk issues at five hospitals, numerous primary care and outpatients centers and a nursing home. Previously, she was Senior Vice President and General Counsel at Miami Children’s Hospital. Robin Athlyn Thompson, CEDS Vice President, Marketing | Business Intelligence Associates
President Elect of AIIM International, she is client services manager at Business Intelligence Associates in Phoenix. She has worked in the legal field since 1974, as a discovery project manager in complex cases at the local and national levels, including work for the plaintiffs’ team in the multidistrict litigation involving silicone breast implants, and previously as a paralegal. Nationally recognized for her record of promoting and educating the e-discovery community, she has been active in various associations in the legal field, including ARMA and Women in E-Discovery. During her tenure as National President of ALSP, membership has grown by 45%, according to a 2011 survey by Litigation Support Today. Executive Director of Robert Half Legal, one of the largest providers of project and full-time professionals to law firms, corporations and government agencies, he has been instrumental in the expansion of the company, which he joined in 1999. Robert Half Legal has locations in major US and Canadian metropolitan areas. A lawyer, he is an expert, author and speaker on employment trends, job search and career management and is co-managing director of Robert Half Legal eDiscovery Services which offers legal project management and e-discovery services, including litigation support, mergers and acquisitions matters and document review. Founder and president of the e-risk consulting company, Fortis Quay, in Ojai, California, she helps large organizations measure risks associated with e-discovery, compliance, and information governance and develop training and processes to counter them. As Director of E-Discovery at UnitedHealth Group, in Minnetonka, Minnesota, he oversees processes, protocols and tools that the company utilizes in its electronic discovery production in regulatory and legal matters. One of the nation’s leading experts in discovery, he previously worked as the Electronic Discovery Consultant at Faegre & Benson, a large Minneapolis law firm, and for ten years at the Fortune 500 international company, Cargill, where his work focused on document and electronic records management, e-discovery strategies and document productions.
