ACEDS Saddened Over Loss of Former Colleague Ervin A. Gonzalez
By: Al Lindsay, a Partner in the Miami office of Hogan Lovells and ACEDS Advisory Board Chair

The e-discovery community is mourning the loss of powerhouse litigator and e-discovery thought leader, Ervin Gonzalez, who passed away on June 8, 2017.  Board certified by the Florida bar as a specialist in both civil trial law and business litigation, Ervin was known as one of the nation’s leading trial lawyers.  With almost 40 jury verdicts of over a million dollars, and a reputation for successfully handling the most complex disputes, Ervin was at the height of our profession.  But as confirmed by the hundreds of lawyers who attended his funeral, Ervin will be most remembered for mentoring scores of younger lawyers and being a fine human being to all, perhaps most notably including those who opposed him in court.

Although I had worked opposite Ervin on a number of cases, I was privileged to really get to know and become friends with him mostly from speaking and presenting together on topics related to e-discovery.  With an expertise that was accomplished long before most lawyers had even a basic understanding of the area, Ervin was a marquee presenter at a number of ACEDS conferences going back to the organization’s inception.  In addition to always drawing a big crowd, he was generous and humble to his fellow presenters, while graciously sharing with every audience an expertise that was second to none.  In addition to his friends and partners at the Colson Hicks law firm, Ervin is survived by his high-school sweetheart and love of his life, his wife Janice, to whom ACEDS and the entire e-discovery community offer our most sincere condolences.

I am incredibly sad to hear this news. My thoughts are with Ervin's family at this incredibly difficult time. He will sorely be missed by the ACEDS and legal communities.
