What is the purpose of the eDiscovery Business Confidence Survey?
The eDiscovery Business Confidence Survey is a non-scientific quarterly survey designed to develop insight into the business confidence levels of individuals working in the eDiscovery ecosystem. The term ‘business’ within the context of the survey represents the economic factors that impact the creation, delivery, and consumption of eDiscovery-related products and services. The purpose of the survey is to provide a subjective baseline for understanding the trajectory of the business of eDiscovery through the eyes of industry professionals.
The survey was initially launched in February of 2016 by ComplexDiscovery and expanded in August 2016 to leverage the eDiscovery educational and execution excellence of the Associate of Certified eDiscovery Specialists (ACEDS) under the leadership of Mary Mack.
What is covered in the survey?
The quarterly survey consists of nine multiple choice questions seeking participant insight and information regarding the business, revenue, and profit conditions of the eDiscovery ecosystem. Context is provided to each survey answer through the identification of each participants' segment, function, and geographical location.
Who should participate in the survey?
The survey is open to legal, business, and information technology professionals operating in the eDiscovery ecosystem. While individual answers to survey questions are confidential, the aggregate results are published quarterly to highlight the business confidence level of participants regarding the economic factors impacting the creation, delivery, and consumption of eDiscovery products and services.
What are experts sharing about the survey?
"The business of eDiscovery is an ever-present and important variable in the equation of legal discovery," shared Mary Mack, Executive Director of the Association of Certified eDiscovery Specialists (ACEDS). "As financial factors are a primary driver in eDiscovery decisions ranging from sourcing and staffing to development and deployment, ACEDS sees value in regularly checking the business pulse of eDiscovery professionals. The eDiscovery Business Confidence Survey provides a tool to help take that pulse on a systematic basis and ACEDS looks forward to sponsoring, participating, and reporting on the results of this salient survey each quarter."
Mary Mack, Executive Director, ACEDS
"In my experience, the successful conduct of eDiscovery is comprised of a balance of in-depth education, practical execution, and experience-based excellence," highlighted George Socha, Co-Founder of the EDRM and Managing Director in BDO’s Forensic Technology Services practice. "The eDiscovery Business Confidence survey being highlighted by ACEDS is one of many industry surveys that positively contributes to this balance, as it provides a quarterly snapshot into the business of discovery. I highly encourage serious eDiscovery professionals to complete and consider this survey as a key tool for understanding the business challenges and opportunities in our profession."
George Socha, Co-Founder of the EDRM and Managing Director of Thought Leadership, BDO
How are results of the survey shared?
Survey results are published quarterly on the ACEDS website (News & Press), on the ComplexDiscovery blog, and on selected ACEDS Affiliate websites and blogs. Additionally, once per quarter the ACEDS Executive Director, Mary Mack, hosts a one-hour webinar consisting of an expert panel of business and technology leaders from the eDiscovery ecosystem to share and discuss the results and insights gained from the survey.
