Judge eyes vendor contracts as ‘frightening’ ransoming of Glaxo data unfolds

New York County state Judge Shirley Werner Kornreich sent a sobering message this week to organizations that outsource e-discovery to third parties. Her warning: if it can happen to the world’s sixth largest pharmaceutical conglomerate, it can happen to anyone.

She was referring to a ransom demand by e-discovery vendor, Discovery Works Global, which has been accused of holding hostage nearly four billion pages that form the e-discovery and data storage work the firm was hired to do by the huge pharmaceutical company, GlaxoSmithKline.
